Biggest Loser Competition!
I would like to start up a little weight loss competition. We know many of you have already been losing weight and many would like to start losing weight so we thought it would be great to have a friendly competition to help motivate everyone. With the competitive spirit that the family members possess, it should be a great competition. Here are the guidelines for our Biggest Loser:
This is an on-your-honor system.
FIRST WEIGH-IN: Wednesday, January 1st. This is your set start weight—no changing! This number will be used in all weekly and final calculations. No one will need to report their weight since we are just doing percentage of weight lost. This is the fairest way to do the competition. If you have just a few pounds to lose, than you will have a higher percentage loss than those who have a lot more to lose. For example, if you weigh 130 pounds at the start day and lose 2 pounds the first week, you will have lost 1.54% (explanation of how to figure out percentages below). If you weigh 200 pounds at the start day and lose 2 pounds the first week, you will have lost 1.00%. For those who weigh more, it may not seem fair; however, if you weigh more, you will more than likely be able to lose weight quicker and therefore it evens out for all participants involved.
Weekly weigh-ins every Wednesday. Please email me at Sarajayne.hamlin@gmail.com or call (269-673-7108) no later than 9:00 pm on Wednesdays with your percentage lost for the week. A weekly report of everyone’s percentages will be emailed out no later than Thursday morning. The weekly updates are to keep everyone motivated and to see where everyone stands in the competition.
FINAL WEIGH-IN: March 1 2010. This is the percentage that counts and the top two will win!
Use the same scale with every weigh-in and be HONEST. A digital scale is more accurate and preferred for this competition. However, if you only have an analog scale, please make sure you use it honestly and zero it out with every weigh-in. Weigh yourself at the same time of day in the same conditions. For example, if you weigh yourself naked first thing in the morning after you’ve emptied your bladder, then this is when and how you should always do it.
You can do anything to lose weight through diet and exercise, you can join Weight Watchers, hire a personal trainer/chef, eat cabbage soup for six weeks, sweat it out in a sauna, jut NO DIET PILLS or weight loss medication or surgery. Of course, you’ll be more successful long-term if you try to lose weight the right way with healthy eating and exercise.
The winners are determined by percentage of total weight lost (not total pounds lost). Examples of how to calculate:
Total # of pounds lost / Weight on July 1st x 100 = percentage of weight lost
So, if you weigh 200 lbs. on July 1st (you always use this weight to calculate), and you lose a total of 23 lbs., then the calculation is as follows: 23/200= 0.115 x 100= 11.5%
If you weigh 135 lbs. on July 1st and you lose a total of 15 lbs, then the calculation is:
15/135 = .1111111 x 100 = 11.11%
We will use traditional rounding methods in our calculations. Round up if it’s 5 or higher and round down if it’s 4 or lower. We will go out two decimal places.
Examples of how to round. . .
If you weigh 184 lbs. and lost 19 lbs.: 19/184 = .1032608 x 100 = 10.33%
If you weigh 149 lbs. and lost 37 lbs: 37/149 = .2483221 x 100 = 24.83%
GOOD LUCK and Win!!!
